Karen brings more than 16 years of journalism and strategic communications experience to the Faiss Foley Warren team. She led FFW’s communications efforts on the Coalition to Defeat the Margin Tax Initiative and served as the coalition’s spokesperson. Karen currently works with Uber and helped bring its ridesharing service to Nevada in 2015. She also assisted Nevadans for Background Checks launch its petition drive in 2014. She oversees public relations for Nevada Mining Association and helped to develop initial communications pieces and strategy for Opportunity 180, a new nonprofit dedicated to bringing high-quality educational opportunities to low-income children.
As a former anchor and political reporter at several television stations, Karen has covered some of the most-watched political races in the country, including the 2010 Senate race between Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sharron Angle. She has her finger firmly on the pulse of current and public affairs across Nevada.
Karen experience also includes municipal and legislative issues. She served as a public relations professional for the city of Sparks, Nevada and worked as a legislative assistant with a law firm, analyzing complex bills and making strategic recommendations for clients in the fields of banking, energy, and gaming.
Karen is originally from central California and has a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno. In 2015, Karen was honored with a “40 Under 40” award by Vegas, INC and received a Pinnacle award for Public Affairs from the Public Relations Society of America, Las Vegas Valley Chapter. Karen is a former board member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and served as Vice President of Soroptimist International of Reno. Karen and her husband, Matt, are the parents of two young children.
