Applications for Cox Charities Grants accepted through Oct. 14
Cox Charities, in partnership with United Way of Southern Nevada, is inviting local non-profit organizations to apply for grant monies. The deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 14 and funding is designated for programs that support one or more of Cox Charities’ philanthropic focus areas: children/families; education/STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math); and/or diversity.
Grants have ranged from $1,000 to $5,000 previously. Submissions are due no later than 3 pm. on October 14. Programs and/or services should address one or more of the following: overcoming disabilities; arts and culture; safe and healthy lifestyles; leadership development; literacy; science/technology/engineering, math; mentoring, social skills development or other areas benefiting youth. Organizations will be notified by Dec. 15, 2011 regarding their application.
Earlier this year, Cox Charities awarded $171,000 in grants to 37 local non-profit organizations. This will be the fifth grant cycle for Cox Charities, which has awarded nearly $400,000 to local organizations since 2007.
Cox Charities is funded primarily by Cox Employee contributions and a variety of fundraisers including an annual Cox Employee Golf Tournament. A committee, comprised entirely of Cox employees, reviews all grant applications and selects the recipients. The Cox Charities Advisory Board, also employee-led, approves the grants and awards the monies.
