At-Risk Students Receive Demonstration by Winners of 2011 First Robotics Championship

WHAT: Fifteen students from Orr Middle School will attend the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) robotics demonstration at PlanetPTC Live in Las Vegas on June 14. The annual science and engineering conference will feature more than 100 informative sessions, keynote addresses, new product unveilings and more.
PTC, a national product development company and organizer of this conference, has partnered with After-School All-Stars (ASAS) Las Vegas to establish a FIRST program at Orr, Cashman and JD Smith Middle Schools during the 2011-2012 school year. The company has donated funds to support this pilot program and is hoping to secure additional financing via fundraising, currently underway. FIRST adds an exciting science, technology and engineering component to the diverse opportunities already available to at-risk and underprivileged youth through ASAS. Existing programs include tutoring, athletics, music, dance and more.
