Child advocate John Walsh reveals new findings during live video Facebook chat with Cox Communications about Internet Safety

WHAT: Just before school gets out for summer, John Walsh discusses some new findings from “The Tween Internet Safety Survey” commissioned by Cox in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He will also talk about Internet safety tips for parents, caregivers and others.

WHY: As National Internet Safety Month commences, Cox Communications is helping to raise awareness about safe experiences for teens and tweens for home computers, was well as mobile and other enabled devices.
“The Tween Internet Safety Survey,” revealed parents are doing a good job monitoring their children’s online behavior, including talking to them and setting guidelines and restrictions for Internet use on home computers, but there is room for improvement, especially when it comes to keeping tweens safer when they use mobile and other connected devices. Findings include:
- 83% of tweens use a gaming console to access the Internet at home.
- 51% of parents said they monitor Internet behavior on gaming consoles
- 42% have received a personal message from someone they didn’t know
- 44% watched something online their parents wouldn’t approve of
The Tween Internet Safety Survey covering the online habits covering10- to 13-year-olds is available from Cox Las Vegas immediately.
