Downtown3rd Farmers Market Launches March 9
Weekly indoor market features farm-fresh regional produce at an indoor, convenient location with free parking
Las Vegas, NV, February 27, 2012 – Southern Nevadans have yet another reason to rediscover downtown Las Vegas: a weekly indoor Farmers Market that will feature farm-fresh regional produce from farmers throughout Nevada, Utah and California. The Downtown3rd Farmers Market launches March 9 and will be held every Friday thereafter from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 300 North Casino Center – located off US 95 South and Casino Center Drive.
According to Seth Schorr, CEO of Fifth Street Gaming, who is overseeing redevelopment of Downtown Grand (formerly Lady Luck Hotel & Casino) and the activation of Third Street which has been rebranded as Downtown3rd, the company is working closely with Kerry Clasby, The Intuitive Forager, and Cheryl MacPherson, Las Vegas food and beverage executive, to create a vibrant regional Farmers Market.
In addition to farm-fresh produce, the Downtown3rd Farmers Market will also include cooking demonstrations from the city’s best chefs and other community activities in support of the local food movement. Held in 10,000 square feet of indoor space with plenty of free parking, Downtown3rd Farmers Market is protected from the elements to provide residents with year-round access to farm-fresh produce and more.
According to Clasby, Downtown3rd Farmers Market is the ideal place to bring the delicious, healthy goodness of local farms to your family’s table and to connect with like-minded members of the community. “There is nothing quite like buying your dinner ingredients directly from those who nurture the produce from seed to harvest,” she said. “Farmers Markets not only promote a healthy quality of life, they support regional growers and foragers to create a cycle of healthy sustainability.”
The weekly indoor market space will include: Produce from local and regional farmers from Nevada, California and Utah (depending upon season and harvest).
Cooking demonstrations featuring the regions most celebrated chefs preparing innovative and accessible dishes using farmers’ market produce. Ingredients from these recipes will be conveniently pre-packaged for market shoppers to bring home.
Local bakers and food truck vendors offering freshly prepared food to enjoy on the premises or take away.
UNLV Master Gardeners will provide advice and guidance for those preparing springtime crops at home.
Children can get their hands dirty in the Kids Craft Zone. As the market develops, more activities for kids will be planned.
Sponsors and volunteers are needed in many areas. Those interested in participating are encouraged to visit www.downtown3rd.com and www.facebook.com/Downtown3rd for more information on they can join the grassroots effort to grow, nurture and inspire a community meeting place where regionally grown and foraged food is a culinary focal point!
