Giving back to Rape Crisis Center in a meaningful way!
Assisting the Rape Crisis Center with social media is one of my passions as I strongly support its mission. I’ve had the opportunity to write blogs on some advocacy training sessions and speak on behalf of the Rape Crisis Center to Hispanic media. I enjoy every minute of it! That’s why I signed up for the fall advocacy training and plan to chronicle my experience via social media and weekly blogs.
For the training sessions, RCC invites guest speakers from several organizations in town to present information on such topics as human trafficking, domestic violence, stalking & sexual harassment, court process for sexual assault cases, etc. Volunteers’ responsibilities include answering crisis calls around the clock, making referrals for victims and others who are seeking assistance, representing RCC at community outreach and education events and planning and assisting with fundraising activities.
Next advocacy training starts on September 22nd. However, applicants must submit an application by September 11th and interviews are currently being scheduled.
- Be 21+ years of age
- Complete a 50-hour training course
- Pass a criminal background check
- Donate a minimum of 6 hours per week on-call
- Commit to minimum of 6 months of volunteer service
For anyone who is interested in making a difference in the lives of individuals who’ve been impacted by sexual assault, please visit RCC’s website at www.rcclv.org and go to the Help RCC tab, and Volunteer, or call the office 702-385-2153. Volunteer application can be completed online as well!
I am thrilled to learn more about RCC and to embark on this rewarding journey!
Quick note: Look out for #advocacyadventure on social media starting September 22nd!
