Major Southern Nevada trail system announcement at National Trails Day
The name for a major trail project that is planned to connect communities to trails and open spaces around the Las Vegas Valley will be announced during the National Trails Day celebration next weekend. More than 100 miles around, the trail system will provide a gateway to Southern Nevada’s great southwestern desert attractions and recreation areas.
Saturday, Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m.
Promenade at the Henderson Events Pavilion
200 S. Green Valley Pkwy., just south of the 215 Beltway

Part of Southern Nevada Regional Trail System’s “Neon to Nature” initiative to develop a world-class system of trails, the project will eventually connect communities to more than seven million acres of public lands that surround Las Vegas. The Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition approved the conceptual development of a 100-plus-mile loop around the valley in 2009.
The Outside Las Vegas Foundation, a private non-profit organization, is coordinating plans to complete the trail system with several local, state and federal agencies. Formed in 2000 to enhance the connections between people and public lands in southern Nevada, the Foundation will also lead fund-raising efforts for the public-private partnership.
