Case Studies: Crisis Communications
- On April 15, 2009, General Growth Properties (GGP), owner of Summerlin/The Howard Hughes Corporation and Fashion Show, Meadows Mall, The Boulevard, The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian and The Shoppes at The Palazzo filed for bankruptcy. We acted as facilitators between local media and the corporate offices of GGP in Chicago, provided assistance in preparing media statements and disseminated information to key reporters. Las Vegas is a key market for GGP given its holdings here, so ensuring that our local media had access to GGP executives and timely information was a priority.
- When one of our clients, a leading automobile dealer with multiple dealerships and a popular community philanthropist, died unexpectedly, we dropped everything to handle all media inquiries, prepare a media statement, ensure that all the information reported was correct, write an obituary and facilitate interviews with key associates.
- When the BMI plants in Henderson were required by the EPA to publicly disclose a worst-case scenario if hazardous chemicals they manufacture and/or store were leaked, we worked for six months to develop a comprehensive outreach plan to mitigate publicity and quell irrational fears. This award-winning initiative was honored by the Public Relations Society of America with a Pinnacle Award. Unlike most of our proactive outreach in which we work to generate as much publicity as possible, this carefully choreographed effort was only a one-day headline – our desired result.
