Some food for thought – literally

 In Blog

Your brain is a fascinating organ and if you treat it well it can make a big difference as you age. Did you know that diet and exercise contribute to keeping your brain in optimum shape?  According to Dr. Michael Roizen, chief wellness officer at the Cleveland Clinic, here are some foods that are beneficial to the brain:

  • Omega – 3 fats
  • Salmon, trout
  • Walnuts
  • Flax seeds
  • Chia seeds/grain
  • Caffeine In tea, coffee
  • Tumeric
  • Flavonoids and polyphenols
  • Blueberries
  • Brown rice
  • Almost any fruit or vegetable
  • Spinach
  • Tea
  • Tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Apples (especially skin)
  • Insoluble fiber
  • Barley
  • Quinoa
  • Chia

Of course there are also foods to avoid – and beyond diet, there are several activities that can work in your favor as you age. All of this and more will be discussed at the next Symphony Park Lecture on April 4 called “The Brain Demystified.” We could tell you more, but we’ll let Dr. Jeffrey Cummings of the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas do the talking!
