Mayor Goodman Addresses Crowd at Bier Garten Opening

On April Fool’s Day, over 100 guests joined with city of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and former Mayor Oscar B. Goodman (and his showgirls) to celebrate the grand opening of Bier Garten at The Plaza downtown. Here, residents and visitors alike can relax in Bier Garten’s casual backyard atmosphere and enjoy German-inspired food, two-dozen craft beers on tap and various bottled microbrews. The team behind wildly popular Pop Up Pizza, Sam Cherry and Grant Garcia, in partnership with the Plaza Hotel & Casino, opened Bier Garten to create “a relaxed and pleasant escape from the concrete jungle.”

The grand opening celebration marked the beginning of the spring/summer season when the garden would be in full bloom. Yet, as April Fools would have it, the day’s weather was more appropriate for an Oktoberfest. Despite the chill and the wind, attendees enjoyed themselves, feasting on samples of Bier Garten’s imaginative menu of wursts, handmade fare of artisan sausages inspired by German favorites but made with a Las Vegas flair. All of Bier Garten’s two dozen craft beers were also available for tasting, with complimentary beer provided by PranQster, a Belgian style golden ale. And since any backyard event would not be complete without entertainment, Bier Garten welcomed The All-Togethers, a Las Vegas based acoustic band that had recently returned from South by Southwest as a representative for Life is Beautiful.

Bier Garten’s unique outdoor dining area in front of the Plaza Hotel & Casino features nearly 3,000 sq. ft. of real grass and specially designed wooden trellises with winding vines to create a relaxed Bavarian beer garden setting with authentic tables from a 1980’s Munich Oktoberfest. Bier Garten also boasts downtown Las Vegas’ first and only living wall created by local florist Gaia and comprised of more than 900 plants on the façade of the Plaza.

Located just across the street from the Fremont Street Experience, Bier Garten is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. It offers a variety of live entertainment Friday and Saturday nights and is available for private parties.
